Membership Terms
Sitakund Samitee UK Limited · Registered in England & Wales No. 11973726 · A non-political, not-for-profit organisation
DRAFT — for committee review before publishing
These terms summarise what it means to be a member of Sitakund Samitee UK ("SSUK"). They sit alongside our constitution — if anything here differs from the constitution, the constitution wins.
1. Who can join
Membership is open to anyone aged 18 or over living in the UK who is from Sitakund (Chattogram, Bangladesh), or is a descendant or spouse/partner of someone from Sitakund. Friends and well-wishers of the community may be welcomed in a supporter capacity at the committee's discretion.
2. Applying
- Apply using the membership form on this website (or the paper form). A reference from an existing member is required.
- The Executive Committee reviews each application and may approve or decline it. On approval you will be assigned a membership number and welcomed to the register.
- The information you give must be accurate. How we look after it is set out in our Privacy Policy.
3. Fees
The membership fee is set by the committee and is currently [£amount and frequency — e.g. £5 per month by Direct Debit]. Fees fund our community events, publications and charitable work — SSUK is not-for-profit, and no part of its funds benefits any individual member privately. If fees change, members will be given notice.
4. What members get
- A vote in SSUK elections and general meetings, per the constitution.
- Priority access and member rates for events.
- The monthly newsletter and our publications.
- A say in our activities — polls, proposals and volunteering.
5. What we ask of members
- Treat fellow members and guests with respect; SSUK events are family occasions.
- Respect SSUK's strictly non-political character — the SSUK name, platform and events must not be used for party-political campaigning or promotion.
- Keep your contact details up to date and pay membership fees on time.
6. Leaving or losing membership
- You may resign at any time by writing to the committee; Direct Debits are cancelled from the next collection.
- Membership may lapse if fees remain unpaid after reminders.
- The committee may suspend or end a membership for serious or repeated breaches of these terms or the constitution, following a fair hearing as the constitution provides.
- Fees already paid are not refundable except at the committee's discretion.
7. General
- SSUK is run by its elected Executive Committee under its constitution; a copy is available from the committee on request.
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
